I’m not much of a fan of the NBA, but I do know one thing. The Bulls should take Michael Beasley from Kansas State as the first pick. With the NBA draft coming up in about a week or so, Chicago has a huge decision. Do they go with Rose? Do they go with Beasley? Well first of all, why not Rose? To be completely honest, I don’t know because I only saw him in a couple of games, one of them being the National Championship game. It wouldn’t be very fair to judge a player based on the couple of games I saw. Beasley is another matter though. In this part of the country we heard about him almost every day. We saw the numbers he put up, we saw him play, and we saw the impact he had helping KSU accomplish what they accomplished last year, which was considered an overachievement. K-State basketball was considered a joke before the arrival of Beasley, but also before Bob Huggins’ arrival. However, I do think Frank Martin (current coach) will help K-State in the future.
- In his first game wearing that disgusting purple, he put up 32 points and 24 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 4 blocks. The 24 rebounds is a Big XII record and he set that on his first day playing.
- In his first two games he scored 62 points and had 38 rebounds
- 28 double-doubles a national freshman record
- 44 points scored in one game against Baylor another Big XII record
- Reached the 40 point mark twice and almost 3 times with 39 against Kansas
- Reached 30+ points 13 times
- In average scoring he was #3 nationally with 26.2 PPG.
- He had 4 games where he didn’t have 10+ rebounds
- In average rebounding he was the nation’s best, 12.6 RPG.
- He helped give KU their first blemish of the season… ::Adam fumes a little::
Stats from ESPN.

Michael Beasley aka “Beastly.” Yep, he did a lot of this in his one year.
In my opinion, he should have been player of the year. I think there were some factors that came into play that maybe hurt his chances. One, he was a freshman, I know how these major awards in college sports don’t like to go to underclassmen; two, he wasn’t playing on a 30 win high profile team, KSU went 21-12 and North Carolina was 36-3 after all was said and done for both of them. I’m not saying Hansbrough is not a good player, I just think Beasley got short changed because of the caliber team he was on. I think KSU would have been a ton worse without his presence. And he is a presence at 6′ 9″ or 6′ 10″ and 235 pounds and will be hard to guard in the NBA especially when he’s had a couple of years under his belt. All teams had to double him, which for the most part, was a distractor for other players on KSU like Walker to score. His only weakness that I saw was that he would tried to do too much. I sometimes got the sense that he felt that he had to go out and score 30 points that day, that it was a must. That may have hurt his team in some games.
I really wished he would have stayed another year or two…or three because he was so fun to watch. Plus, I wanted KU to play K-State with him on the team. The rivalry was not much of a competition in years past without a presence like Beasley. I can only imagine how much he may have developed if he would have stayed until his junior or senior season. But, sometimes money yells and we’ll see how sick of a player he can become in the NBA.
I don’t know if Chicago will use their first pick on Beasley or on home talent Rose. Like I said, I don’t know too much about Rose and I’m also not saying Derrick Rose is not a good player, but for me Beasley is just too good of a prospect to pass up. If the Bulls don’t want him, I’m 100% positive the Heat will snatch him up 10 milliseconds after Chicago makes their pick. Let’s just hope he’ll stay out of trouble with all that money coming his way and stay injury free.
It’s a shame Chicago didn’t pick up Beasley, Miami got him at a steal as the second pick! A STEAL! I’m a little disappointed, I thought for sure Beasley would end up #1. I guess Chicago couldn’t pass up home grown talent. It may have been seen as a betrayal if they did.
That’s what I think Chicago should have done! What do you think?
By the way, all this fell out of the head of a Jayhawk!
